Recent media releases have suggested that certain components found in green teas could reduce the chance of men getting prostate and different forms of cancers. Researchers carried out in the USA have shown that green teas, such as Tava Tea include an ingredient that has been shown to reduce the levels of a protein that is linked to the development of cancer.

In the stringent study, guys diagnosed with prostate cancer that was localised to the area drank either six doses of Green tea or water per day over a six week period before undergoing radical prostatectomy.

The researchers then looked at the tissue that had been removed for levels of a compound called Epigallocatechin-3-gallate.

Epigallocatechin-3-gallate was only found in the tissue taken from the men that drank the tea. Blood tests showed that the tea drinkers had reduced levels of proteins associated to the growth and spread of prostate cancer.

It is thought the compound provides an antioxidant effect, cutting out cell damaging free radicals.
